Description

International Advanced Summer School for Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology will be held in Beijing, China on 8th -13th July, 2013. This advanced summer school is co-organized by IUBMB, FEBS, CSCB and CSBMB. This is the first time that the reputable summer school that is traditionally held in Europe moves to China.

The topic for this course 2013 is Genetic Regulation of Seed Development in Plants. In accordance to the tradition of the advanced lecture, the venue should be in a resort with natural environment, simple but comfortable. Lunched in 2010, this annual event will help students (mostly graduate students and postdoctoral associates) to understand the frontier topics in biomedical field. The school holds annually in the first or second week of the July in China. There will be about 40-80 student selected not only from China but other southeast countries. Distinguished scientists will be invited from both domestic and oversea will be invited to give lectures.

Registration

I. Type & Distribution of Expected Participants

Geographic distribution:

Grand China region, i.e., mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Southeastern Asia and Europe

Class Type:

40 students, free registration and accommodation, language of the class is English.

Level:

The participants are comprised of two populations: 1) Senior PhD students, but a few outstanding senior undergraduate students may be acceptable; 2) Junior faculty and postdoctoral fellows.

Selection criteria:

In general, the quality of participants must be high. To meet this requirement, we plan to select from all applicants based on their application form that must show:
1) strong interest in the specific topics;
2) fluency in English, without difficulty in communication; (The working language of Class A is English)
3) good background in previous research or proposal for future research, with priority in the specific topics;
4) Students from Mainland of China must be in the membership of Chinese Society for Cell Biology (CSCB) or Chinese Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (CSBMB). If you are not, you can register for the membership instantly.

II. Process of Application

Application Date: March 1 — April 28, 2013

1st March – 28th April: Submit the Application Form:

a) CV in Chinese (Grand China region, i.e., mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) or in English( Southeastern Asia and Europe);
b) Personal Statement in English (Why are you interested in the theme? Research Plan of the theme, etc);
c) letter of recommendation by your PI or supervisor: (1) the reason of recommendation (2)CV of the PI or supervisor,(3)Brief Introduction of the lab; etc.;
29th,April – 10th, May: Office will check the necessary qualification of the application.
11th – 22th May: Committee will rank the students according to the files submitted.
23th May – 4th July: Confirmation of waiting list

1. Students should bring the posts to the class.
2. Students cannot be replaced. The committee is take charge of the admission of the students.
3. Absent from the summer school without proper reason will cause disqualification. Meanwhile, the PI or supervisor will be informed.
